Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) Issues Interoperability Specification for Radio Access Networks

Standard Outlines Message Procedures and Formats Necessary for Interoperability for a Radio Access Network That Supports High Rate Packet Data

Arlington, Va. – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leader in advocacy, standards development, business development and intelligence for the information and communications technology (ICT) industry, has released an addendum to TIA-878 that provides an Interoperability Specification for a Radio Access Network (RAN) which supports High Rate Packet Data (HRPD).

The document, TIA-878-2 Interoperability Specification (IOS) for High Rate Packet Data (HRPD) Radio Access Network Interfaces with Session Control in the Access Network, contains message procedures and formats necessary to obtain interoperability to support the following HRPD IOS features: access authentication, data delivery, session handoff between access networks and status management.

Conformance to the IOS may be claimed on a feature-by-feature and/or interface-by-interface basis. If conformance on a given interface is claimed for the HRPD IOS feature, it shall be supported as defined in TIA-878-2.

TIA-878-2 was formulated under the cognizance of the TIA Engineering Committee TR-45 Mobile & Personal Communications Systems, TR-45.4 Subcommittee on Radio to Switching Technology.
